O'oma Cloud Forest

O'oma is another mauka (mountain) site where we do service. It is high up in the kaloko area of Kailua-Kona, more like cloud forest than dryland forest. The two primary invasives at this site are ginger and banana poke -- both very attractive plants (like many invasives or "exotics"). Ginger is particularly hard to remove as the roots really dig in. We were led to this site by TREE's Steve Coffee. Thank you Steve! In some of the pictures we are lining up to do an entrance "chant" which is part of Hawaiian protocol. In the chant we greet the person or area we are visiting, explain who we are and what the purpose of our visit and ask permission to enter.
